Welcome to my website!

Thanks for stopping by!

My name is George Wyeth. I’m a 2020 product design graduate from the University of Sussex, UK; if being handed my certificate from my Mum whilst I ate breakfast in my pyjamas, counts as graduation. Graduating in 2020 is certainly different to how I imagined it to be when I first headed off to university but, I’m fortunate to be able to ride out the storm living back home with my family and plenty of natural space around my Surrey village. Yet, whilst it’s easy for me to sit back and relax most days, boredom sneaks in. Therefore, it was time to put some of that degree to use! After a lot of deliberation, procrastination and changes of mind, I’ve created and launched this website. *Cue mild fanfare, maybe a cheer or two*. The website is to be a hub of all my work and hopefully it’ll be a fun and interesting new adventure for me and it’d be great to see some faces new and old come along and join me!

I discovered my love of design at school before that big decision to study it further at university; seriously, making that decision on what you’re going to university to study feels monumental at the time. However, design wasn’t the only draw of university to me (nope, not the other usual draw for students either!). I’d had an itch to scratch for a couple years: I wanted to have my own radio show. Universities give you so many opportunities, university radio stations are a less conventional one, but still a thriving community on most campuses. My radio shows were highlights of every week and soon a further opportunity appeared; podcasting. What better way to blend my love of radio and design than starting a design podcast. Oh and it just so happened that by chance, my friend and radio co-host Pablo, that I’d met at a radio social, was also a product design student! It was like some millennial Shakespeare play, star-crossed podcasters. Zip forward a year and here I am. I love sharing discussions, stories, music, and puns with anyone who wants to listen. So this website is a hub for that, I’ll be posting links to every new episode of our podcast, Some Assembly Required, as well as writing other design based content on this blog. My design interests generally trend towards the larger system designs, circular economy and taking responsibility for our planet, so those will likely be frequent topics, hopefully without sharing too much of my own eco-anxiety!

I hope you’ll enjoy the content I’ll be sharing here, and hopefully that gave you a good summary of who I am, though I’m sure you’ll learn more about me as I go (I’ll probably learn more about me too!). Thanks for checking out my site and I’ll look forward to seeing you back soon! x
